Holiness: How to Use This Study
Twelve weeks in Scripture on what it means that God is holy and calls his people holy, and how to walk through each lesson alone or with a group.
Week 1: The First Holy Thing Was a Day (Genesis 2:1–3)
Before there was a temple, a priest, or a holy people, God set apart a day. Holiness begins with God, his rest, and his order.
Week 2: Take Off Your Sandals (Exodus 3:1–6)
A shepherd turns aside to see a burning bush and finds himself on holy ground. Holiness is God's presence, and it changes how we stand.
Week 3: A Holy Nation (Exodus 19:1–6)
At Sinai, God calls a whole people, not just a few priests, to be holy. Holiness begins with rescue and is lived out in belonging.
Week 4: Holy and Common (Leviticus 10:1–11)
On the worst day of Aaron's life, God gives him a calling: to tell the holy from the common. A command spoken into grief, shaped like creation.
Week 5: Be Holy, for I Am Holy (Leviticus 11:44–45; 19:1–4)
Israel's holiness is grounded not in ritual for its own sake but in who God is. His character is the reason, the pattern, and the power.
Week 6: Holiness on the Farm and in the Neighborhood (Leviticus 19:9–18)
Field edges, paychecks, the deaf and the blind, a grudge you're nursing: in Leviticus 19, holiness walks right out into everyday life.
Week 7: Chosen and Treasured (Deuteronomy 7:6; 14:1–2)
Before holiness is something we do, it is something we are: a people chosen, loved, and treasured by God. Holiness as belonging.
Week 8: Who Is Able to Stand? (1 Samuel 6:19–20)
The ark comes home during wheat harvest, and joy turns to fear. God's holiness is not safe, and the question it raises is the right one.
Week 9: Holy, Holy, Holy (Isaiah 6:1–8)
Isaiah sees the King, cries out over his unclean lips, is touched by a burning coal, and is sent. Holiness undoes us, cleanses us, and sends us.
Week 10: The Holy One in Your Midst (Psalm 99; Hosea 11:8–9)
God's holiness is not only why he judges. In Hosea it is the very reason he will not destroy. Holiness as the ground of mercy.
Week 11: Holiness Reaching Everything (Ezekiel 44:23; Zechariah 14:20–21)
Teach the difference between holy and common, until the day when even the horse bells and cooking pots belong to the LORD.
Week 12: Made Holy, Becoming Holy (1 Peter 1:13–16; Hebrews 10:10, 14; 12:14)
In Christ we have been made holy once for all, and we are being made holy day by day. Holiness is both a gift received and a life grown.
