Day 1: A Direction, Not a Feeling
Blessedness is not a mood you wait for. It is a road you are on. The Psalms begin with a question of direction.
Day 2: Meditation Makes Noise
In the Psalms, meditation is not silent. It is the low murmur of a person who keeps speaking God's Word to himself.
Day 3: The Laughter on the Throne
The nations rage and plot. Heaven laughs. What is making you anxious is not making God anxious.
Day 4: A Title, Not a Name
Christ is not a last name. It is a job description. Psalm 2 shows us the Anointed One the nations rise against.
Day 5: A Shield That Goes All the Way Around
David wrote this while fleeing his own son. God was not only in front of him. God was around him.
Day 6: The Bravest Sentence in the Psalter
"I lay down and slept" — with an army outside. Sometimes sleep is not exhaustion. It is a confession of faith.
Day 7: Room
When life closes in, God's answer is space. Psalm 4 is a prayer for room in the narrow places.
Day 8: Peace You Lie Down In
Peace is not something you feel first. It is something you lie down in, on purpose, before your heart agrees.
Day 9: What You Cannot Say
Some days the prayer is only a sound. God can read what you cannot put into words.
Day 10: An Altar in the Dark, a Watchman at Dawn
Morning prayer has two movements: lay it out before God, then watch. Many of us do the first and skip the second.
Day 11: Nothing to Argue With
One of the shortest prayers in the Psalms is one word in Hebrew. It asks for favor and offers nothing but weakness.
Day 12: The Verb That Comes Before the Answer
Nothing changed between verse 7 and verse 8 except what David knew: the LORD has heard.
Day 13: Refuge Is a Verb
Before refuge is a place, it is something you do. You run in, and you stay in.
Day 14: God Tests What You Cannot Reach
God searches the deepest places in you, the ones you cannot reach yourself. That is meant as rest, not threat.
Day 15: He Shows Up
God does not merely notice you. He visits. And in Scripture, when God visits, things change.
Day 16: Glory Has Weight
Glory in the Bible carries the sense of weight. God crowned human beings with it, so that his name would look majestic.
Day 17: Refuge From Above
Some refuges are built low. This one is set high, out of reach. And it is promised to the crushed.
Day 18: To Know His Name
Trust is what knowing grows into. Not knowing about God, but knowing him by living with him.
Day 19: You're Hiding
The psalmist says what many of us are afraid to say: God, where did you go? Scripture gives you those words.
Day 20: Helper of the Fatherless
God does not only help the fatherless now and then. Helper is who he is for them, steadily.
